Cleaning My Stove Without Toxic Fumes!

Here are some photos of my stovetop before using my non-toxic cleaners. My stove was really dirty and I made sure not to clean my stove for a few days so you can see exactly how well these cleaners work! I used the Basic H2 Degreaser spray and the Scour Off
all-natural scouring paste (my favorite product!) For other posts about Scour Off, click here. Here's how it turned out!

Can you believe that it took barely any scrubbing at all! The Scour Off is the most amazing product and it's made from cherry pits so it even smells delicious! I just love these products so much, can you tell?! For more information on Scour Off, check out my

High Hopes For the Shark Steam Pocket Mop

I really wanted to like the Shark Steam Pocket Mop. Sadly, I tried the product over and over, hoping that it would work better than the last time, yet it never did. I was so excited to have a handy, easy to use, and most importantly, chemical-free way to clean!

The claims: A non-toxic and chemical-free way to clean your floors. It claims to leave your floors sanitzed and clean from the heat of the steam. Included with your mop are multi-purpose cleaning pads,  duster cleaning pads, and a carpet glider.

Pros: The cleaning unit was pretty easy to assemble and very easy to remove and replace the cleaning pads. My bathroom and kitchen floor did feel sanitized and had a feeling of being clean... but before you get too excited, read the cons below. I didn't notice anything miraculous with the carpet glider that claims to deoderize and sanitize the carpet, but I feel like in theory, it seems like extremely hot steam should sanitize the carpet a little right, so i'll go with it!??

Cons: The steam mop did not clean very well. I had to go over both my bathroom floor and pergo wood kitchen floor a few times to remove dirty/sticky spots and had to use a lot of strength to scrub the slightly dirty areas with the machine. I had to pump the handle several times to release more steam and had to move the mop around slowly so the steam could saturate any dirty or sticky areas. I would use this product as a sanitizing method, not necessarily to "clean" the floors. The most annoying part was that my pergo wood kitchen floor was dull and had streaks on it after the floor dried and left a slightly sticky residue. When I walked on the floor with bare feet, it left footprints all over the floor. Even if I did use this to sanitize the floors, I would still have to go back over the kitchen floor to get rid of the streaks and residue. I then sprayed down my floors with Shaklee's Basic H2 and then went back over the floors with the steam mop, which did help pick up the dirt and sticky areas on the floor. It is partly a pro that there are 3 different cleaning heads and several cleaning pads, but it is also a con because there are a lot of parts you have to store with this mop and the mop itself and pretty heavy. The most annoying thing was the electrical cord. All I kept wondering was why this thing wasn't cordless.

Summary:
I was disappointed that this mop did not clean as I expected and with less effort and manual labor on my part. I'm sure I will use this mop occassionally but probably only for the bathroom floors and when I want the kitchen floor sanitized, knowly i'll have to go back over the kitchen floors with another product. I would not recommend spending money to purchase this product unless you are looking for something to mainly sanitize your floors not necessarily clean them. It seems to me like we only have a few other choices: a mop and bucket or other convenient broom-like mops such as Swiffer that are full of harmful chemicals. I am still trying to find an alternative option and will keep you posted. For now, i'll stick to a mop with my Basic H2, which makes the floor clean and shiny, but I just hate using and storing a mop! I'd love to hear how you clean your floors while being time and cost-efficient and of course, chemical-free!

More Amazing Cleaning Before & Afters!

Since my recent post about the Get Clean Scour Off, i've been trying to think of impossible jobs to use it on to see what happens. I took the Scour Off outside and tested it on my husband's poor bike that has been outside for two years uncovered, wet, and quite sad. My poor husband who custom designed the bike figured it was ruined and so we've just left it outside. I know, don't know what the logic is there??
I used a scrub sponge and the magical Scour Off and it's like new! I could not believe two years of rust, like built on rust, never coming off, rust, came off so easily! If I were you, I wouldn't believe it. How could anything take off rust like this? So I took a little video when I started to clean. A neighbor started talking to me outside so I had to stop filming, sorry! Please don't mind my daughter making funny faces, that wasn't planned, I promise. :) Don't forget, this scouring paste is non-toxic and made with cherry pits.

This is AFTER the Scour Off, but as you can see, I only cleaned the front two bars, as compared to the rusty two back bars.

I should have samples of Scour Off soon! It's the best!

Basic H2 - May just be the best, safest, and cheapest cleaner ever!

Love My Basic H2!
It's a money and time saver, health must, and incredibly powerful cleaner!

I cannot talk about cleaning products without raving about Basic H2! I really don't understand why everyone doesn't have a bottle of this in their home. It is extremely powerful, incredibly safe, has more than 1,000 uses, and one bottle will last you years!

Let me tell you about the best part: It's super concentrated, and when I mean super, I mean one 16 oz. bottle is equal to over 5,800 bottles of windex!! This bottles makes 48 gallons of all-purpose cleaner. Astonishing, I know! I've had mine a year and a half and I've used up maybe 1/12th of the bottle.

I'm all about saving money, so let me break it down:

Window and Mirror Cleaner - Costs less than 1 cent per 16 oz. spray bottle
All-purpose Cleaner - Costs less than 3 cents per 16 oz. spray bottle
Degreaser - Costs less than 17 cents per 16 oz. spray bottle

To get the same amount of clean as one bottle of Basic H2®, you'd have to spend:
  • Nearly $480 for the equivalent amount of all-purpose cleaner
  • $13,500 for the equivalent amount of window cleaner
  • $128 for the equivalent amount of degreaser

I love that this is a streak-free, no-rinse, no-residue formula. I can go from room-to-room and wipe down everything with only two bottles! Let me tell you how much time it saves being able to use one product on everything and not worrying about my daughter inhaling fumes because she's standing right next to me. From mirrors and windows, wood, countertops, appliances, walls, etc. this will clean it all and with little effort on your part. This is absolutely the best mirror and window cleaner out there! It's the craziest thing to spray cleaner that has no smell or weird residue.. it's honestly like you're spraying water but it cleans great!

Here are a few uses!  Contact me for exact instructions and dilution:

1. Fruit and Veggie Wash - Put your fruits or veggies in a bowl with 2-3 drops of Basic H2 and warm water and let them soak for a few minutes. Come back and you'll see all the dirt in the bottom of the bowl! Sometimes i'll even use my all-purpose cleaner and spray my veggies, scrub and rinse!
2. Use it to clean your car, no need to dry your car off, it's streak free!
3. Removes wallpaper easily
4. Removes gum from anything
5. Natural Insect Repellant and helps your plants and flowers flourish
6. Removes crayon and permanent marker
7. Keeps your knives sharp, add a couple drops when sharpening your knives
8. Great for cleaning your coffee maker, removes build-up
9. Mix a couple drops of this with Scour-Off Paste and it makes a Super Scouring Paste! I know, like the Scour Off isn't enough on it's own! :)

I'd love to hear about your favorite uses of Basic H2!

Mighty 'Scour Off' Anything!

So many people have raved about Shaklee's Scour Off Paste and I thought I would put it to the ultimate test today while my daughter took her nap. In a year, I haven't really used it too much because my all-purpose cleaner and a good sponge seemed to work just fine. However, I love to use it on the shower fixtures, it's the only thing that gets the water spots off... really! It's fabulous for the kitchen sink also, it will be spotless, gleaming and removes any rust! It is made out of cherry pits... yep, smell it, it smells delicious!

When I was pregnant and before I knew about these wonderful non-toxic products, I made my husband do the cleaning... well, if you call it cleaning. It was more like wipe things down a little. So after 9 months of his so-called cleaning, nothing would take off the built on water spots, including every chemical cleaner I could find. Until I found this product!

So my shower faucet was sooo bad and we have hard water so it builds up fast. It has been about two weeks since it had a really good clean... yes, I know, disgusting! I really have been super busy, promise! But I am glad I waited, check out these pictures! Scour Off, let's see what you can do!

BEFORE SCOUR OFF:

 AFTER SCOUR OFF:

BEFORE SCOUR OFF:

Sorry, this one is hard to see, but there has been rust on the showerhead since we moved in but I could not find anything to get it off, so I finally just left it. Until today.

AFTER SCOUR OFF:

Shiny and clean, except the caulking which we will redo now that the showerhead is clean! Finally! :)

Scour Off is perfect for any impossible job! I even used it to remove stains in concrete! It's perfect for your oven, bathroom, kitchen, on rust, anything! Shaklee suggests not to use it on mirror-like fixtures but honestly, when I couldn't get the water marks off, I gave it a whirl and i'm glad I did! Check out the details of the product below:

Some of the Most Dangerous and Hazardous Cleaners in Your Home

1. Toilet Bowl Cleaners - These are harmful to health by simply breathing them during use.
2. Oven Cleaners - This can cause severe damage to the eyes, skin, mouth, and throat
3. Drain Cleaners - One of the most hazardous products in the home. Can cause severe corrosive damage to eyes, skin, mouth and stomach and can be fatal if swallowed.
4. Chlorine - The most common chemical involved in household poisonings in the U.S. It may cause reproductive, endocrine, and immune system disorders.
5. Carpet Cleaners - Extremely toxic to children and can cause cancer and liver damage.
6. Degreasers - May contain petroleum distillates and butyl cellosolve, which can damage lung tissues.

It is important to remember that you are not only exposed to these chemicals when using them, but they emit gasses and fumes into the air even when they are not in use. When I was pregnant, my doctor advised me to not only discontinue use of all cleaners while I was pregnant, but to remove them from my home completely!

A Healthier Way of Cleaning

How clean is your house really? I'm not talking about sparkling countertops and floors you can eat off of, i'm talking about the air inside your home that you and your family breathe. A five year study conducted by the EPA found that pollutants from household products made the typical American home two-to-five times more polluted than the outside air. It seems that we are always worried about smog and chemicals in the air we breathe outside, but what we didn't know is that we are risking our health in the comfort of our own home. Products like oven cleaners, carpet cleaners, chlorine, glass cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, and all-purpose cleaners contain harmful and toxic chemicals. These chemicals can lead to cancer, liver damage, asthma, respiratory problems, and has many health related risks.

Here is a scary statistic for you: According to a 15-year study presented at the Toronto Indoor Air Conference, women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than those who work away from home. The study concluded that this was a direct result of the increased exposure to toxic chemicals, many of which are found in common household products.

So I know, you are thinking, but we have used these products for years, right? Maybe not. Think of when your great grandparents were growing up, how many cleaning products do you think they had in their home? A lot of people cleaned with vinegar, baking soda, soap and water. Can you imagine what the household cleaning product aisle looked like 100 years ago compared to now? Now there are cleaning solutions for everything and you have the option of endless different scents with each cleaner. Do you want cleaner with Febreeze, cleaner with bleach, fabric softener with lasting beads or extra fragrance, detergent for dark clothes, detergent for cold cycles... the list goes on and on. There are other options... safe, chemical-free, and non-toxic incredible cleaners that outperform many traditional brands.

I take pride in knowing that I am doing my best to get rid of as many chemicals that I can in my home for my family. My husband grew up having asthma and has always had issues with bronchitis every time he gets sick so it is important to me to avoid respiratory irritants in our home. Imagine replacing all of your cleaners with a simple and concentrated cleaning line that has no harsh chemicals and is completely safe, natural and non-toxic. There are alternatives to the fumes and harsh chemicals! The best part is you will actually save money in making the switch! I love that I can clean right next to my daughter without having to worry about her being exposed to chemicals or fragrances. Here's to a healthier home and a healthier family!
